How to get the most out of your home today…

Many of us look at our homes and feel like it’s not ticking all the right boxes and feel the need to find a bigger house or renovate, but much of what most people are desiring is already there! So how do you make the most of your home without even moving a wall?

The most important key in making the most out of your home starts with vision, with vision absolutely anything is possible!

When I start on an new Interior Design project I look at the project as a whole, I think about what I want to achieve as a whole for the project, no room or space is an island and this is the key to creating a home that you make the most of in every aspect.

So, you want to make the most of your home how and where do you start? Firstly step back, you need to see your house as its very basics; walls, windows, doors, floors and rooms, the layout of your home is the best place to start. When you step back you have the chance to see the bones of your interior spaces, sometimes they are good and sometimes they are not so good, but you can transform both!

You need to think about the function of your home, what you want each space to do and how you want to live in it. This makes it much easier to get the most out of every room of your home. Just because the previous occupiers had their sofa on that  wall or used that room as a dinning room dose not mean you need to do the same, think outside of the box, that dining room might become a great loungeroom and add twice as much living space then where you currently have your living room.

Now that you have a vision and an idea of what you want its time to make changes! Resolving a room always starts with the functions of the space and then the pieces needed, so look at what you have and play with what can be moved to make the most of your space. Moving furniture is a very easy and simple way to change the way you live and the use a space and best of all you can keep playing until things start to fall into place! So, play with what you have, always start with the biggest pieces, beds, sofas and big tables and then work with your smaller pieces to fill in the gaps.

By following these few tips, you will be able to transform your interior today simply by making your home function better. The basics of good interior design have more to do with a functional space then the colour of the walls, so always start with the functions and then think about the fun things!
