Why get a decorator when I can DIY?

With DIY becoming more and more a part of our lives, from the endless TV shows, YouTube channels and constant Instagram #diy posts it can be easy to think that DIY is the way to go!

However as an interior designer and interior decorator I see DIY from a slightly different perspective, read on, and I will share with you a few trade secrets that will that will save you not only time, but money too.

So what is DIY?

DO IT YOURSELF is the simple translation, transforming your home with your own creative and physical abilities. This means that you do all of the research, all of the designing, all of the buying and all of the building (Not to mention everything in-between!). To some this might sound like a dream, but to others it’s your worst nightmare!

Why not DIY?

In asking the question ‘why not DIY?’ I am asking ultimately ‘Why DIY?’

As an Interior Designer and Interior Decorator of course I have a vested interest in you not DIYing your own home, however don’t be fooled I have turned my hand to DIY a few times in my life, so I too have learnt from my own DIY experiences!

We can all master a few basic DIY skills; after all painting walls is not rocket science! However kitchens, bathrooms and whole home transformations are another matter completely, just imagine trying to cut your own hair and styling it better than your hairdresser? (We have all seen the results of that during Covid-19 lockdowns!) There are many things in life we would never dream of doing ourselves and there are may reasons why, we don’t have the skills, we don’t have the time…the reasons are endless! So why DIY our own homes?

Why work with an Interior Designer or Interior Decorator?

As an Interior Designer and Interior Decorator I have worked on my fair share of homes that have had the touch of a DIY hand, and this is not much of an issue if it is simply a fresh coat of paint, but kitchens and bathrooms are another matter themselves. Kitchens, bathrooms and any other major investments in your home are just that, investments, and making the wrong investment can not only lose you money but your time too.

Our homes are our greatest assets and investments, so the next time you are considering a major project at home, think about the investment you are making. It might feel like DIY is the most cost effective direction, however when you think about the best long term investment, not just financially, but also in terms of your lifestyle too. Is DIY really going to pay off in the long term?

We all have different house goals, and there are many ways to work with an Interior Designer or Interior Decorator. Perhaps you need colour solutions to make your home feel more personal? Perhaps you need solutions to better use your existing space? Or maybe its time for a new kitchen or bathroom design. Don’t be afraid to seek out the help of a design professional, we want to add value to not only your personal life, but to your biggest asset too.

Just imagine a home that is designed just for you, within your budget that will add value to your biggest life investment too! This is what I can bring to your project, not only a home that is beautiful, but a home that also adds to your lifestyle!
